| Anybody recommend a mixing (though I suppose Cubase LE 4 already has this facility?) and mastering software I can use for my tracks? Is there anything that's good and free available? Or is it better to purchase a good quality mastering suite? |

I'm assuming that you know the significant differences between mixing and mastering.
Mixing you should do within Cubase.
Mastering- well unless you're planning a commercial release you can do this while you're mixing within Cubase.
In fact if you know what you're doing you could potentially commercially master your release in Cubase as well. _________________ Cubase LE 1.0.8, Tascam US-144, Toshiba Satellite Celeron Dual 1.8GHz/2Gb (from 25/10/09), Vista Home Premium 32 bit

| Yes, I am planning to release commercially. I was informed that GoldWave is a good mastering suite. |

I can't comment on mastering software because I haven't used any.
But a Youtube search for "Mixing in Cubase" could be very useful. _________________ Cubase LE 1.0.8, Tascam US-144, Toshiba Satellite Celeron Dual 1.8GHz/2Gb (from 25/10/09), Vista Home Premium 32 bit

You could do both in Cubase.
If you want separate pro mastering software look at T-Racks, Wavelab, Sony Sound Forge, or on Peak Mac.
Freeware there is Audacity but I rather mix and master on Cubase as it gives me more options. |

halljack said: Use what you have now, Cubase Le4 and or the mastering section of cubase Le4
I remember people mixing and mastering albums and CD'S
on Cassette Portastudio's. Cubase is Light years ahead of them now.
A person can always take tracks into a Professional studo for that polish but it take's (you got it) $$$$$$$$$$
PS: In my opinion "DEMO TAPES" no longer exist as long as one uses something like Cubase. It's Great Software
from the start of a song Idea to a finished master recording (AS LONG AS ONE KNOWS WHAT THERE DOING).
GOOD LUCK
