| I'm a long time Cubase VST 5.0/32 user, and I just installed (and uninstalled) some new software on my recording computer (duh). I bring up old files now and try to play them back, and not only do I have no audio, the track meters don't even move (although everything looks normal - the tracks all indicate that there's information there). I also have no input signal when I try to record. A bit must have got flipped somewhere, I'm just having trouble tracking it down. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

First thing to check is your windows settings. Right click on the speaker symbol on the right of the task bar and select 'Adjust Audio properties' (thats for XP, other Win OSs slightly different). On the Audio tab check that your sound card is shown. The same dialog is also in 'control panel/Sounds and Audio' if you have problems getting it. If that seems OK look at Options/Audio Setup/System on the VST32 menu.
If you are using MIDI, check your MIDI settings in a similar way. _________________ WinXP Pro, AMD 3.2GHz Athlon+,

| Thanks for the reply. I changed enough settings and rebooted often enough that everything started working again, and I’ve had no problems since, but I’m no closer to determining what the problem was in the first place. I left the post up because the problem was so odd that I wondered if anyone else had experienced it. The most troublesome issue was the meters not moving. There were no mutes on any channels, and the transport bar was moving, but I had no meter activity (nor could I hear any audio). This was also the case when I sent a signal in. I could track the signal through the board (old Hill Audio), and the ADA (Frontier Design Dakota / Tango). I don’t think that there were any problems with Control Panel settings, and the Cubase and Asio settings seemed okay too… it’s like a bit of the software didn’t load until I rebooted a couple of times. It seems that Cubase VST still has some users, so I’ll leave the post up in case anyone else runs into this problem. |
