Hi, I just switched from Vista 32 to 64. Everything seems to be fine so far, however I can't get the Waldorf Edition installed. At some point in the installation it says that it can't read the copy protection from the original CD, to make sure it doesn't have scratches and to call support if the problem persist. Now my CD is in perfect shape, no scratches, nothing and it's an original which makes me think that the installer must have a problem with Vista 64.

Does anybody experienced the same and knows of a workaround or is it simply not working under Vista 64?

Thanks,
bM3w

Have you set yourself to“administrator rights” inside VISTA? Rolling Eyes

You know that Waldorf Edition only support Windows XP 32bit, don't you?

Odd problem and return message anyway, perhaps call “Waldorf” support after all? Perhaps it doesn't work in VISTA64bit at all, but I doubt that? Think

Thanks for your suggestions, Freddie!

Actually it turns out to be a problem with the installer. I found a thread from the Waldorf Mailing List with the exact same problem and it was confirmed by Waldorf that it doesn't work Crying or Very sad Although they said, that "at some point" they will update the installer, but don't know when. So I guess you can put The Waldorf Edition on your Vista 64 blacklist - at least for now.

Cheers,

Just for the record, it works in XP64.
The old, Steinberg version that is.
Did you try to run the installer in XP compatibility mode ?

Hi Rhino!

Well, I tried everything possible. Even installing from a different source over network and things like that. Of course I also tried various compatibility mode settings, but none of them worked. Now all I can do is just sit and wait and hope that Waldorf will update the installer. At least they know about it and vaguely promised an update.

Hi,

I just succeded today to get Waldorf Edition working on Vista 64bits. Cool

I try to help:

1) You install it on an XP machine, then with the regedit editor you go to : HKLM/Software and you need to reproduce inside Vista 64
the entry called "Waldorf" with it's every subfolders.
But Instead of copying it in the same place, on vista 64 you use HKLM/Software/Wow6432node and you put the Waldorf Entry inside.

...It's not enough.

2) On your XP machine you go to the HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion.
Inside this folder you have a key named "ProductId" you need to write the serial number on a paper.
It represents the serial number of windows XP.

3) Now you go on your Vista 64 machine on HKLM/Software/Wow6432node/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion
and you notice the key "ProductId" doesn't exist.
So, you need to create the Key "ProductId" in this place, and put the XP serial number inside.

4) you copy the Waldorf Directory from the XP c:/program files/steinberg/vstplugins to the Vista 64bits Program files (x86)/steinberg/vstplugins

And you got a perfectly cracked version of Waldorf Edition, working very fine on Vista 64bits. Very Happy

Many Thanks to Waldorf Company for nothing, they could continue to sleep, as they seem don't worry so much about their customers
who can't use their software with vista.

You've just made my day in a BIG way. Thank you so much for this information!! It works like a charm.

For anyone else wanting to get the Waldorf plugs going in x64 windows Vista or Windows 7 (I used this in x64 Win 7 RC) this is a method that works.

Weeeeeeeeeee!

Does this procedure also work with Voice Machine from Spectral Design?

It works on Windows 7 64 bit for Waldorf PPG 2.V standalone and the Waldorf LE stuff.

Restating for clarity:
1. You need to have a working install on a Windows XP machine
2. Using a Registry Editor, you need to navigate to the following keys and copy the values down inside
HKLM/Software/Waldorf (this will have a separate key for 2.V and for LE, each with their own values)
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion, look for ProductID (this is just a single string value)

Copy the keys and values down somewhere (like paper)

3. Create new keys with the same values:
HKLM/Software/Wow6432/Waldorf (gets the Waldorf keys and values)
HKLM/Software/Wow6432node/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion (gets the product ID)

4. Copy the Waldorf VST DLLs (or the whole directory) from wherever you store your VSTPlugins (e.g. c:/program files/steinberg/vstplugins) to the Program files (x86)/.../vstplugins folder

Should work fine.

BIG thanks to ostrovitch!

Now this thread is exactly why forums like this are so valuable.

I am sure there are those that would have posted 'this is a Steinberg forum, not a Waldorf one'.....but that really isn't the point.

When will the VST producers (Steinberg included) wake up and smell the coffee?

If you want our money, then support the ongoing Operating System changes.

I really don't care how much innovative new plug-ins cost, but I do care when I can't use them any more, just through the passage of time. It's so frustrating when you can't even throw money at the problem, because the developers just haven't put any priority into keeping existing customers happy - hell, I'd even pay a few extra bucks for a 64-bit upgrade on most of my old plug-ins.

If the non-commercial guys can do it, the so can the big boys. Why on earth does anybody need to take low-level coding short-cuts on installation routines anyway - standard Windows installs have been around since the year dot. All they do is copy/move files and folders and set-up registry entries.

Thanks again for the solution. It's rather ironic though, that the solution gets described as a 'hack'......I'd call it a damned useful bit of info.
