hi all; a good group buy just started at ik mutimedia.com.
buy a sampletank library at $39.99 or euros and get sampletank xt playback vsti included. it comes with an additional 1Gb library.
then they give you a free additional library from your choice of the 30 available.
so for about £22 you get lots of good stuff.
i've ordered vintage keyboards and world instruments. got all the codes and links and am downloading now.
if they get about 500 in the group, they give you a 3rd library free.

no problem. watch out for the installation and download part; it's efficient but multi-stage.
there's some nice sounds in the ones i got. especially on the world instruments.
forgot to say; i quoted £22 but that's because i had £20 in loyalty points.

I just checked and it' s already 539 users, so it's 3 libraries for the price of one.
they say it will be 4 for 1 if they get to 1,500 users... since the promotion expires may 31st, it's very likely they'll get there.
looks like a very good deal ! _________________ Win 7 64 bit, Core i7 860 with 8 GB Ram, Cubase 5.10 32 bit, Ozone 3, Reason 4, Komplete 5, Korg Legacy Collection, Proteus X, Emulator X2, etc...

Dammit Eddie, with your impeccable logic ,you're going to make me buy this.
Tell me which libraries you got and if you regret any or would have chosen different. _________________ Dell Precision 390 2.13 ghz Core Duo / 2gig ECC ram /160g HD /325g sata/500g sata/ Emu 1820M/ XP 64x /CB4 / Komplete 5 / Reason 4 / 13 external synths |

i got vintage keyboards, oberheim synth, world instruments, cinematic textures and symphonic strings 2, plus the new one; world loops which i haven't tried yet.
only "regret" would be symphonic strings 2, but only because i already have a lot of the sounds in it, so if you don't have symphonic strings it's still great. especially at these prices.
i haven't had time to listen through all the material, but there are some excellent sounds in there. some of the programming on the synth patches is a little lazy in terms of volume matching / envelope release time but this can be easily rectified and stored where it is an issue.sampletank 2 xl is my main vsti; useful on all styles of music and very fast and easy to use. the built-in fx are superb, and i wish ik multimedia would allow us to pass audio through them.
if you are new to it, get omnisynth 2 library. it gives a good quality gm set so if you are using a midi file it gives a great starting point.
if it goes to 5000, we get 7 for 1.
greedy?
sure, but might as well!

Thanx for the heads up, Eddy,
just one question, that doesn't solve by readiung the IK - goupbuy homepage.
Does one have to own the Sampletank XL Sampler already, or do the sound come with a free player like vsti?
They're talking about a "Full expandable Sampletank XL2" Version, i reckon that's "just" a player, right...?
Thanx for Info! _________________ schroeder

as far as i've seen , the bundles sampletank xt is the same as sampletank 2 xk, but without the sound library. so you can edit the sounds in just the same way, and use stretch etc. it has the same fx structure too. and is compatible with the same libraries.
haven't tried importing my own wavs into xt yet, but even on the full version that i use (XL), this is a tedious process. sampletank is a player/editor/synth, not a "proper" sampler. for that, look to kontakt, emulatorx etc.

Thanx for the info, Eddy,
i just wanted to be sure that the sounds come with a vsti and not to have to buy their Sampletank XK vsti, which would charge another 2 bucks. No big sampler-functionality needed here.
So considered this, it's a real no brainer, eh. I'll throw my 40€ into it! Thanx for the heads up again! Niice...

XT is not feature-limited in anyway so you are correct - just missing the sound library. This is at 6x1 now and making a mad pace toward 7x1 which is VERY cool. |

That's a no-brainer alright! Six free 1GB libraries for $49 , can be seven until May31 ...

you will be spending a while downloading!
the authorisation process is longwinded, but you'll get the hang of it after installing 5 free libraries...
sampletank 2; simply the best multi-timbral vsti when you need a wide range of good sounds in short time, and the reason why steinberg must not kill off the vst instruments rack in favour of mono-timbral vst tracks!

nobody said it, and steinberg denied it when i asked a couple of years ago. but in copy of cubase le4 that came with my alesis firewire box, there was no instrument rack; just instrument tracks. so you'd have to open 16 separate instances of a multi-timbral plugin like sampletank or emulatorx to get the same functionality. there have been posts about this on the forums, where i usually annoy people with my scare-mongering!

sure i know! steinberg are ok with long term users asking sensible questions about the product in a civilised manner. there was a long thread about vst instrument tracks vs rack recently. my opinion is to have both.
p.s. only 33 more for the 7x1, and 4 days left!

This is totally unbelievable. They must have hit 5000 sometime during last night. The homepage isn't even updated to say 7 for 1 yet.
I think I never used the term "no-brainer" before - but I was in already at 4 for 1 (when I heard of the group buy). |
