I'm pretty new to Cubase LE, but I'm getting there. Up to now I've been applying a touch of reverb to some recordings on a per channel basis, but now that I'm expanding into more channels this is getting a bit tedious, especially since in the main I want the same reverb on each channel. Then I came across this:

http://mediamusicforum.com/recording-reverb.html

Now this seems sensible to me......if I understood it !!!! Can someone please expalin how I....."put one reverb on a separate bus....." and then what does this mean..."the outputs of all the channels are set to go to your main mix" and then ..." the output of the reverb bus is also set to the main mix"

Like I said it sound good to me, but how do I do it in Cubase LE?

It sounds to me from your description that you are using the reverb as an insert effect on each channel. Whilst this is OK, the downsides of this include 1. you chew up a lot of VST processing power and 2. It's a pain if you want consistent reverb across multiple channels.

The more common way to use reverbs is to use them in what's called a send effect. This way you only use one instance of the reverb and "send" the signals from each channel to the one reverb. The combined signals are the effected and added to the master bus within Bubase.

I could spend the next 5 mins typing out how to do this, but I respectfully suggest that if you read the manual, the section on send effects, you'll get a better appreciation for how to set this up in Cubase, and my fingers won't hurt.

A Youtube search on "Reverb Cubase LE" found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qITVxOV55Q&feature=channel which will probably help also if you're using LE4.

Good Luck!

OK thanks for the swift reply and advice.

I've been to the sends effects section of the user manual several times but find that it's not very helpful. I've never managed to work my way though that section to end up with a properly set up 'send', which is why I gave up and went hunting for another way. I know it takes time and patience to get to know a huge application like Cubase, even the LE version, but I do find the user manual very frustrating in places and as it happens this is one of them. I guess I can go back there again and give it another shot.

Thanks again for your advice - much appreciated.

Good way to set up reverb is open an FX channel, put the reverb in as an Insert set 100% wet, then go back to your audio track, click on a Send slot and select this FX channel. Also click on the little button above the Send slot to turn it on and pull the little fader right below the slot to set % of the effect.

Yep, OK....what you advise is what the guy does on celtsound's youtube clip, but I can't find a way to..."open up an FX channel"... in Cubase LE 1.10.

If you could explain how to do that then I know how to do the rest of it.

Thanks

Don't know, sorry, I have LE 4. You just right-click in the Inspector area and choose add FX Channel.

It's not there. The only add channels available are: Audio, Folder, Group, MIDI, Marker, Master Automation, Video. So It looks as though I can't do it in LE 1.10

Try it in Group, that should work.

The computer just froze, had to hit and hold the on/off button to get out of jail. I think the CPU is getting a bit hot under the collar with all this VST stuff I'm chucking at it. I think I'd better tidy up a bit before doing any more. I'll try it on a group channel though, thanks for the tip.

OK- LE1 is a different animal to LE4.

In LE1 You need to go to Devices- VST send effects and select a reverb from the drop down boxes.

Then if you hit the "edit" button on the track inspector on each track you can then select the reverb from the send effects drop down list, then move the send slider to the right to send the signal to the effect. Just make sure you have the correct "active" buttons activated.

P 168 - 171 of the LE1 Help manual describes this in better detail with pictures.

Yep, got there myself in the end celtsound, but thanks for your time and trouble anyway - much appreciated. I'm just about up to speed now on channel sends thanks to all the help and advice I've had here. Cubase forum at its best.

Thanks
