Yeah I know this is a bit dated already, and so is the software i am using(SX2) or at least trying to use, but here is my situation.

My A8V deluxe originally had an AMD 64 3200 socket 939 processor, and wanting a cheap upgrade, I bought a used AMD 64X2 4200 processor, as this board does support dual core. Everything went fine on the install, XP working great, the only problem I have is that Cubase SX2 is now unstable, cpu spikes up and down frequently and rapidly, even on small projects.

I know SX2 was never meant for a dual core system, but should it not run stable in this environment regardless? Have I missed something on the install, may be a bios setting or something. I have been trying reaper, and it does run stable, but I do notice these cpu spikes there as well. I'm hoping some knowledge here might be able to offer suggestions? otherwise I am tempted to go back to the 3200 processor. Yeah I know I should upgrade, but aside from being cash strapped, I have a lot of unfinished sx2 projects archived.

Check to see if there is a BIOS update for the A8V Deluxe that properly supports that 4200 CPU. That's about all I can think of at the moment.

If somehow cool and quiet (as I remember it being called) is enabled, that could cause this. It´s CPU throttling. It has a bios setting somewhere. Rightmark has a utility cold RMclock to check and set it.
